Somewhere between two major wars, an ailing economy, global warming, and healthcare reform, we’ve left the one policy area that holds the potential solutions to all our hardships—-education. It’s time to put education at all levels on the forefront of our policy radar. Education serves as a tremendous investment and innovation incubator for our state.

It is time for our state to diversify its economy and attract and capture the best in high-tech research and the entrepreneurial spirit. We need to send a message to the world and the rest of the country that Michigan will be a leader and model at the forefront of economic resurgence. We can do precisely that by incentivizing entrepreneurial start-ups and business relocation or expansion, expounding upon the enormous growth potential of tourism within the state, and attracting and incubating research in conjunction with our world-class universities.
Kalamazoo is uniquely suited to serve as the model for Michigan’s high-tech and entrepreneur-driven new economy. It’s time for Michigan to be associated with more than just outdated and ailing industries. It’s time for the great State of Michigan to wake from its economic slumber. The 60th District holds the key to the ignition!

Reinstitute a sense of pride into our citizens. Instill a sense that we will be at the head of economic expansion and recovery and a model for education from K to College. It is time we find ways to reinvigorate our citizenry and put ourselves back on the map to the rest of the state and work on initiatives that provides us a unique identity. Should we identify ourselves as the Education City? Or perhaps we should strive to be the Research Capitol of Michigan. Who are we? Who do we want to be?
It is imperative that our residents and visitors know and trust that the Kalamazoo area is a safe an inclusive area to be a part of. In that belief, it is my commitment to stand up for pertinent social justice issues. Recently, with the passage or Ord 1856 (ONE Kalamazoo), we need to pass similar legislation for the entire state.
